Developing Coaches Who Develop Players

Coerver® Coach Education has a different focus from traditional association coaching qualifications. While coaching badges cover the broader demands of managing and coaching the game, our focus is on the training ground – developing the individual technical ability of the player.

We teach coaches how to develop players who are comfortable and confident with the ball at their feet. This means understanding not only what skills to teach, but how to teach them, develop them through repetition and ultimately help players apply them in the game.

WHO IS IT FOR

The Coerver® Player Development Pyramid

At the heart of our Coach Education programme is the Coerver® Player Development Pyramid – a structured methodology that gives coaches a clear pathway for developing the complete technical player.

The Pyramid progresses through the key areas of player development:

1

Ball Mastery

– Developing confidence, control and the ability to manipulate the ball with both feet.

2

Receiving & Passing

– Building accurate, purposeful passing and the ability to receive and control the ball effectively.

3

1v1 Moves

– Giving players the skills, confidence and creativity to beat opponents and protect the ball.

4

Speed

– Developing speed with and without the ball, including acceleration, reaction and changes of direction.

5

Finishing

– Building the technique and confidence to create and convert goalscoring opportunities.

6

Group Attack

– Bringing individual skills together to develop effective combination play and attacking decision-making.

The Pyramid gives coaches a progressive framework they can use to
develop players from strong individual technical foundations through to
the effective application of those skills within the game.

WHERE IT WORKS

Our Focus Is the
Training Ground

Coerver® Coach Education provides coaches with practical methods, exercises and progressions they can take directly into their own training sessions. The emphasis is on maximising player involvement, increasing touches of the ball and developing the technical qualities that players need when match day arrives.

A major focus is developing players who can use both feet effectively, creating more balanced, adaptable footballers who are confident receiving, passing, turning, dribbling and manipulating the ball under pressure.

Ultimately, our objective is simple: to give coaches the tools to develop technically strong, well-balanced and skilful players who are confident and creative with the ball at their feet.
